Ph.D. Research Intern

IBM Research

May 2022 – Aug 2022 San Jose, CA
Designed and developed a simulation that modelled the spread of COVID-19 amongst employees in a workplace using artificial intelligence and agent simulation techniques with the goal to mitigate viral spread. Was able to model a digital twin of all employees of a specific workplace while remaining privacy preserving. Simulated a workplace, taking into account location, interaction constraints, in-person interactions, calendar goals, and specific resource bottlenecks, and their effect on the spread of virus. Modelled a SEIR model to describe the diffusion of virus while analysing the effect of various risk-reducing policies that could be enforced.

Graduate Research Assistant

POEM Lab, NC State University

Aug 2018 – Present Raleigh, NC

Advisor: Dr. Chris Martens

Simulation of small-scale social interactions that take into account real-world geographic constraints, logistics, lifestyles, and social influence dynamics. We aim to support a variety of applications, such as examining the implications of social science theories and developing playable, explorable story worlds.

Advisor: Dr. Boyang Li

Research into the creation and scheduling of an interactive multiplayer narrative in a mixed/augmented reality world. We tackle the largely overlooked problem of temporal uncertainty with scheduling the narrative in the real world.

NSF iCorps Grant Recipient

Design & Intelligence Lab, Georgia Tech

May 2015 – Dec 2015 Atlanta, GA

Advisors: Dr. Ashok Goel and Harold Solomon

We were one of only 25 teams chosen across the United States to participate in the NSF iCorps program. We conducted customer discovery on the use of a knowledge extraction tool to enable researchers at big banks discover new relationships amongst seemingly unrelated entities to make better investment decisions. The goal was to build a knowledge extraction tool capable of extracting deep understanding from text to improve the precision, relevance and fertility of retrieved knowledge using direct matching, case-based reasoning & analogical reasoning.
